Native Habitat and Species Information
Corkscrew Vallisneria native habitat, distribution, behavior & aquarium compatibility.
Corkscrew Vallisneria is a wide blade, grass-like plant, in which the leaves will twist, giving them the appearance of a corkscrew. Corkscrew Val is grass green in color and can grow rapidly or slowly depending on nutrient levels in the water and lighting conditions as well as CO2 supplementation.
Aquarium Care
How to successfully keep Corkscrew Vallisneria in the home aquarium.
Plant the Corkscrew Val in bunches or singly in the mid-ground of the aquarium for the best effect, but be careful not to bury the crown (where the plant stem meets the roots) in substrate as it will kill them. If noticeable decay occurs on the leaves (it usually starts at the tips), it should be trimmed to prevent it from spreading to the rest of the plant, which can cause the entire plant to "melt".
Feeding & Nutrition
How to successfully keep Corkscrew Vallisneria in the home aquarium.
For optimal growth, Corkscrew Val requires a moderate level of light at 2 to 3 watts per gallon with full spectrum (5000-7000K) bulbs. Corkscrew Val will thrive with regular CO2 supplementation, plenty of light, and a nutrient rich substrate.
Propagation Information
How to propagate and grow Corkscrew Vallisneria.
Corkscrew Val will send out runners for propagation. Allow the new plant to develop a root system and leaves before separating it from the mother plant with very sharp, sterilized scissors.
